National Gallery of Art Renovation
The East Building of the National Gallery of Art is undergoing a major renovation. The galleries are closed, but the atrium can still be visited and some of the works of sculpture, including the Calder mobile can still be seen. The website here, indicates that some of the modern paintings from the galleries are being moved to spaces in the West Building so they can be seen. The renovations are to be completed by the spring of 2016.
Corcoran Gallery of Art
The Corcoran Gallery of Art is now closed and will reopen in late 2015. The National Gallery of Art will renovate the second floor gallery spaces to display special exhibits of modern and contemporary art.
National Fossil Hall is Closed
The National Fossil Hall, where the museum dinosaur exhibits are located at the National Museum of Natural History is closed for renovation until some time in 2019. See more here.
Renwick Gallery is Closed
The Smithsonian's Renwick Gallery Building is closed for renovations until 2016. It is the home for the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s craft and decorative art program.
Old Post Office Tower is Closed
The Old Post Office Tower is now closed. The Trump Organization will be turning the building into a luxury hotel. Reopening is expected to be sometime in 2016.
Capitol Dome Renovation
The dome of the Capitol Building is undergoing a 2 year renovation until sometime in 2016. Tours of the Capitol take place on a regular basis.
